Last year, (before I began the Scrappin' Becky B. blog), I taught a class on how to make this super cute 9" x 9" interactive accordion album:
So, just in time for you to create to display your cherished Christmas photos, I'm going to share the instructions with you so you too can make one of these festive cuties! (By the way...these make FABULOUS gifts for grandparents!!)
Album Cover:
Begin with a 9" x 9" CTMH accordion album. Cut the following:
- NOTE: All of the decorative paper that I used is from the CTMH Jingle paper collection
- 6"x 9" piece of striped paper
- 3" x 9" piece of decorative paper
- 4" x 6" piece of CTMH Creme' Brulee' cardstock
- 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of white cardstock
Stamp the following images:
- Stocking from the CTMH "Stocking Style" stamp set
- Using tulip ink stamp stocking on colonial white cardstock, cut out and set aside
- Using bamboo ink, stamp the cuff of the stocking on colonial white cardstock, sponge stamped cuff image with bamboo ink, cut out and set aside
- Using New England ivy ink, stamp holly leaves and stocking heel and toe images on colonial white cardstock, cut out and set aside
- Using chocolate ink and the CTMH "Simple Stitches" stamp set, stamp a zig-zag stitch pattern around the layered white/creme' brulee' cardstock as shown in photo above
- Using New England ivy ink, stamp the word "celebrate" from the CTMH "Card Contemporary" stamp set vertically on the right side of the white cardstock that you've adhered to the creme' brulee' cardstock
- Poke "stitch holes" along your zig-zag stamped images using a paper piercing tool. Repeat along the stitch lines of the stamped stocking image. This little technique really adds a nice touch of detail to stamped images with stitching!
- Adhere the creme' brulee'/white layered cardstock to the cover, slighly off center
- Referring to the photo above, adhere the components of the stocking together. Using 3-D dots adhere the stocking as shown to the white cardstock. Add 3 red sparkles to the holly leaf element to represent holly berries
Cut 3 - 3" pieces of ribbon. Tie each one in a simple knot and trim the ends as desired. Using a glue dot on the back of each of the ribbon knots, adhere to the left side of the album cover as shown in the photo above.
Page 1:
Cut the following:
- 1 - 9" x 9" piece of decorative paper
- 1 - 2" x 9" piece of striped paper
- 1 - 7" x 7" piece of white cardstock
Stamp the following images:
- One "HO HO HO" image, (from the CTMH "Holiday Jingle" stamp set), on white cardstock using juniper ink
- One "HO HO HO" image on white cardstock using tulip ink
Page 2:
Cut the following:
- 1 - 9" x 6" piece of tulip cardstock
- 1 - 9" x 3 1/2" piece of juniper cardstock
- 1 - 9" x 1" piece of white cardstock...punch one edge with a decorative border punch
- 1 - 3" x 6" piece of white cardstock (for tag)
- 1 - 1 7/8" scallop punch from polka-dot paper
To create the tag:
Trim the edges of the 3" x 6" piece of white cardstock to form a tag shape. Fold the polka-dot punched scallop shape in half. Adhere the scallop to the center of the top of the tag and punch a hole through all of the layers. Cut a 4" piece of white rick rack and run it through the hole in the tag. Cut a 3" piece of coordinating polka-dot ribbon and tie it around the rick rack at the top of the tag. Trim the ends of the ribbon as desired and slide the tag into the pocket you've created on your page.
Stamp the following images:
- One "Jingle" word image, (from the CTMH "Holiday Jingle" stamp set"), using tulip ink on white cardstock
- One "Jingle" work image using chocolate ink on creme' brulee' cardstock
Page 3 - Interactive "Gift Package":
Cut the following:
- 1 - 9" x 1" strip of tulip cardstock - punch one edge with a border punch
- 2 - 3" x 3" squares of juniper cardstock
- 1 - 4" x 4" square of striped paper (for package base)
- 1 - 4 1/2" x 1" piece of polka-dot paper (for package lid)
- 1 - 4 1/2" x 1" piece of white cardstock (to make the package lid stiffer)
- 1 - 4" x 1" strip of tulip cardstock
- 1 - 2 1/2" x 4" piece of white cardstock (for tag)
- 1 - 2 1/2" x 1" strip of tulip cardstock, with one edge punched with a border punch (for tag)
Cut 4 - 2 1/2" pieces of red grosgrain ribbon. Place the ribbon on the corners of the 2 pieces of 3" x 3" squares of juniper cardstock, and adhere to the backsides only with glue dots. (By not attaching the front of the ribbon to the front of the cardstock you'll be able to cut your photographs to size and slide them under the ribbons, applying just a little adhesive under the center of your photographs.) Attach the juniper cardstock squares to the right side of the page as shown in the photo above.
Creating the interactive gift package:
To form the package base, adhere the 4" x 1" strip of tulip cardstock to the center of the 4" x 4" piece of striped paper and set aside. To form the moveable package lid begin by adhering the 4 1/2" x 1" strip of polka-dot paper to the corresponding piece of white cardstock. (This step makes the lid stronger and easier to work with). Place a white brad through the lower left corner of the 4 1/2" x 1" strip of polka-dot paper. Now attach the brad to the upper left corner of the striped package base, as shown in the photos above. Add additional brads to the package lid as a decorative element. Place adhesive on the backside of the package base - on the bottom and sides only to form a pocket - and attach to the left side of the page as shown above. To form the tag that goes inside the gift package, adhere the 2 1/2" x 1" strip of tulip cardstock, (that you've pre-punched one edge with a border punch), to the top of the 2 1/2" x 4" piece of white cardstock. Slide tag into the gift package. To create the bow on top of the package, I cut a piece of red ruffly ribbon about 7" long. I crafted a bow by forming loops with the ribbon and securing with glue dots. I then adhered the bow to the package lid with additional glue dots.
