Good Reads: Philippa Gregory's Cousin's War Trilogy

If you enjoy reading historical fiction, and are looking for some great summer reads, then I highly recommend the Cousin's War Trilogy by Philippa Gregory. These books, The White Queen; The Red Queen; and Lady of the Rivers are based on the rivalry of the Lancaster's and the York's to secure the throne of England and their family's destinies. Philippa Gregory does an amazing job of weaving an intriguing story line into these books using historical dates and locations that she has meticulously researched.

If you love historical fictions as much as I do, then I just know that you'll enjoy reading these books! Once you've finished the trilogy, you might be interested in reading her book, The Kingmaker's Daughter, which continues the story of the Cousin's War.

Happy reading!

"Hey Chickie" Birthday Card

Hi, friends! How was your weekend? On Saturday, Mike and I took a little road trip to my parent's place, which is about an hour away from where we live, to install a new ceiling fan in their den. My dad's knees aren't in good shape, so we didn't want him climbing up on a ladder to do this himself. Besides, it gave my mom a good excuse to make homemade rolls, chicken and noodles, and a Texas sheet cake - ha! ha! ;)

Yesterday my sweet friend, Cristi O. celebrated a birthday...I hope you had a SUPER day, Cristi!!!  I spotted a cute chicken card over at Splitcoast Stampers, (click HERE to see that post), so I just had to make one to mail out to Cristi on Friday.

I glued a little raffia to the base of the chicken to make a nest, and I stamped the inside of the card with "Have a Happy Birthday". I think it turned out so adorable and I'm definitely going to be making some more of these cutie cards for other occasions.

I hope you have a terrific week!

My Latest Flea Market Find...

Good morning, friends! I hope that you had a fun and relaxing weekend. Although the temps here were hot and sticky, Mike and I had a great weekend! On Saturday we headed for the Tulsa Flea Market to go treasure hunting, and I scored this fantastic antique school desk:

I have wanted one of these for soooo long and I was able to get the vendor to come down on his price, so I only paid $40.00 for it! I love the patina, scratches and chips of the wood...beautiful! I added some old books, an abacus that I dug out of the trash can from a school many years ago, and a fun wooden apple to complete the old school house look. I think it looks really cute!!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today! I hope that you have a FANTASTIC week!

Just a Few Cards for My Stash...

Good morning, friends! Lately I've been in card-making mode, so I thought that I share a few of my creations with you today...

First off is a sweet baby card that I made for my precious friend, Sarah P., who is expecting her first baby in just a few weeks. She and her hubby didn't want the gender of the baby revealed during her ultra-sound, so I made the card gender neutral, (although for what it's worth, I think she's having a boy - LOL!)...

Next up is a simple birthday card that I made to have on hand...love the little potted herbs on the image that I chose for the front!

Card # 3 I made for my friend and co-worker, Christi, who had knee surgery last week. (I also made a microwaveable rice bag for her as well...you can see the tutorial on how to make those by clicking HERE.)

And, last but not least, here is a cute birthday card that I made for my stash! I added a fun quote strip that reads "Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional." ;)

Thanks for popping in today to check out my creations! I hope you have a terrific week!
