Simple and Inexpensive Floral Scarf

Every time that I go to a craft store or Wal-Mart I like to look through the fabric remnant bin. I love finding nice sized scraps of fabric to use for craft projects, jar toppers, etc. Recently while looking through the little remnant bin at Wal-Mart I came across a pretty piece of cotton/rayon blend floral fabric that measured about 60" long x 12" wide. I loved the colors and design, and since it was only $.75, I tossed it into my shopping cart! When I got home and unrolled the fabric I discovered a cut along one edge...

No worries, though! I decided to turn my fabric remnant into a scarf, so using my rotary cutter I simply trimmed off the edge with the hole! I stitched a 1/2" border around the outer edge of the fabric:

Next I frayed the fabric up to the stitched border to create a fine fringe around the outer edge of my scarf. NOTE: Creating the fringe around the scarf is the most time consuming part of this project, so make a cup of tea, settle into a comfy chair, pop a good movie into the DVD, and start "fringing" your scarf!

If you want, you can use the point of micro-tipped scissors to help with the fringing process...

Carefully work your way around the edges of the scarf, pulling the fabric threads around the outside edge of the border. Once you've "fringed" the scarf all around the edges you can press the fabric to give it a nice, smooth finish and then you're ready to wear it with a cute t-shirt, sweater, etc.

Here's another look at my finished scarf...not too shabby for only $.75, huh???

Thanks for dropping by to check out my blog today! Enjoy the rest of the week...the weekend is only a couple of days away - WOOHOO!!! :)

    1. Sorry to disappoint you, John! I don't go to Wal-Mart very often...maybe 4 times per year...not a fan of that store at all. On the up side though...I made a pretty scarf for only $.75 though - hee! hee! ;)
