No-Sew Flip Flop Flower Tutorial

Hi, friends! With flip-flop season upon us I thought I'd show you how to whip up some cute no-sew flowers to attach to your sandals to dress them up:

Here are the supplies that you'll need:
  • 1 sheet of felt
  • 2 buttons with large holes
  • Approximately 20" - 24" of ribbon (I used wired ribbon)
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Straight pins
  • Flip-flops
Let's get started! Begin by drawing and cutting out a shape for your flower petal about 3 1/4" long. (You can see the shape that I used in the photo below.) Fold your sheet of felt in half and pin the flower petal pattern to the felt:

Carefully cut the petals out of the felt...you'll need 4 for each flower you make:

Fold the petals not quite in half and cut a small slit into the petals:

Lay 4 of the petals out as shown in the photo below:

Carefully weave the flower petals together as shown here:

Insert a 10" - 12" piece of ribbon through the holes in the button and lay it across the center of the flower:

Bring your ribbon across the petals to the back side of the flower, making sure to get the petals aligned with the ribbon. Twist the ribbon on the back side of the flower:

Crisscross the ribbon on the back side of the flip-flop strap, then bring the ribbon upward to catch the other side of the petals, which will hold your flower together and in place:

To secure the flower to the flip-flop, run the ribbon back through the button holes as shown here:

Tie the ribbon in a knot and trim the ends to give your flower a nice, finished look:

And there you have it! A quick, no-sew embellishment to dress up a simple pair of flip flops! (You could even use them to easily dress up a girl's headband or ponytail band.)

Just think of all of the color combos you could create! Also, there are LOTS of printed felt sheets available now, so you could make polka-dot flowers, tiger print flowers, smiley-face flowers, etc. Lots of fun ways to accessorize summer's favorite shoe! :)

Have a FANTASTIC week!!
